IT WILL BECOME HISTORY

IT WILL BECOME HISTORY

TEXT: 1 Samuel 17:31-51

PREFACE

We give all glory to God Almighty who has been protecting us from this giant called Coronavirus which entered our country suddenly. Though this pandemic has killed thousands of people worldwide, we are still alive because of His favour and mercy towards us here. I can assure you that since everything that has a beginning must have an end, this too shall become history and we will all rejoice together in Jesus name, Amen.

INTRODUCTION

We all have giants to face in our lives: people, pressures, worries, and fears. The world, including our country, is facing the Goliath of our time. That which is a giant to me may not look like a giant to you, but it is still very real to me – and must be faced.

How can we defeat the Goliaths of life? In the above chapter, we find what to note and can be done to survive this perilous time.

  1. GIANTS APPEAR WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT THEM
    1. David came to see his brothers, not to fight giants.
      • Goliath challenges the army of Israel (17: 1-11, 16)
      • David is sent to check on his brothers (17:12-19)
      • When David gets there, he sees Goliath (17:20-23)
    2. You can be sure: Sooner or later, you will have to face your giant.
  1. YOU CAN FACE GIANTS WITH FAITH OR WITH FEAR.
    1. Notice the contrast between the soldiers and David.
    2. The men of Israel were afraid (17:24)
    3. David was upset because the name of God was blasphemed. He was concerned about the honour of his God; nothing else. (17:25-27)
  2. We can be overwhelmed by the giants in our lives-or we can see them as opportunities to glorify God. I can assure you that we’ll glorify God at the end of this.

III. SOMEONE WILL ALWAYS BE READY TO DISCOURAGE YOU.

  1. Many people tried to put David down.
  2. David’s brother  (17:28, 30)
  3. Saul (17: 31-37)
  4. Goliath (17:43)
  5. Do not be surprised if people say, “You can’t do it!” or “You won’t survive this pandemic!”

IV. YOU MUST PREPARE BEFORE YOU MEET YOUR GIANTS.

  1. When Goliath appeared, David was ready. He had prepared:
  2. Fighting lions and bears (17:34-36)
  3. Developing his faith in solitude of the shepherd’s field (17:37; chapter 16)
  4. You get ready to meet the big problems in life by meeting the little problems in life successfully-with the help of God.

V. MAKE YOUR BEST PREPARATION, THEN DEPEND ON GOD.

  1. David’s trust was not in himself, but in God
  2. He had adequate confidence in his training (17: 38-39)
  3. He had confidence in his tools (17: 40)
  4. Above all, he had confidence in God.
  5. Goliath’s challenge (17:41-44).
  6. David’s great expression of trust (17:45-47).
  7. Sooner or later you will face a giant that you cannot defeat alone. Work on your relationship with God.

VI. IF YOU HAVE GIANTS, FACE THEM AT ONCE.

  1. David ran to meet Goliath (17:48); and victory was his (17:49-51).
  2. The longer you put off facing your problems, the bigger they become.

VII. ONE VICTORY PREPARES YOU FOR ANOTHER

  1. David’s victory helped others-and himself.
  2. The Israelite army was then full of courage (17:51-53).
  3. David now had experience to strengthen his faith for latter battles (17:54).
  4. Every time God helps you to win a battle, engrave that fact in your heart. Nothing will give you more strength in future battles!

CONCLUSION

As we are confronted with this corona virus pandemic, let’s rely on God for strength. Build your faith daily to face and overcome your struggles. Each victory will help you some other to win (GHB 633: verse 1, line 2). Each victory will strengthen you for the next confrontation.

PRAYER

  1. God, cover me with your blood always.
  2. God, kit me with all your armours.
  3. God, empower me always.
